Often it is an easy choice to leave a company. One of the most vital selections that you can make in your career is to leave your present employer in the correct way. Like every other relationship, there are faults and virtues with each company. At the end of a relationship, folk have a tendency to target the faults. When you leave a company, it is like splitting up with a boyfriend or girl, without reference to how you do it; there will continue to be feelings (The longer the relationship, the deeper the feelings).
Folk express their feelings in alternative ways so, be prepared to reply with compassion. In reality, I was employed by my previous MD inside 2 years of leaving the company. He had moved onto a larger job with another company and thought of me when a position came open in his dept. Since we already had a great relationship, the interview process was both short and pain-free. Also, the job was a major step up for me both professionally and financially. Here are some yes and no’s that will aid in making the transition easier for everybody. DO write and give a simple resignation letter to your immediate head honcho and, maybe, your Human Resources Director, if acceptable.
By putting some key items in writing, it memorializes your target to leave the company. It also gives you an opportunity to pre-play the debate with your boss man. The letter should include the following: your last day on the job, open items you need to finish before leaving, and any work that you’ll need to pass off to some other person. DON’T say anything negative about the company or anybody working for the company. While this is a good policy to use at any time, it is even more urgent when you’re leaving. Pissed off staff may track you down in this time to air their negative feelings about the company or folk working for the company. Withstand the enticement to amuse these chats. DO give as much advance notice as practical to make allowance for a smooth transition. Use your best judgment to choose how long you’ll need to give bearing in mind what’s best for the company.
Bear in mind that is also possible the company will ask you to leave instantly, particularly if you are going to work for a rival. This is nothing private and shouldn’t be considered an insult. It’s completely natural to get “short-timer’s disease” as you have recently mentally moved onto the new position. Whether debating flicks, books, or relations; folks usually remember the start and end more than the middle. Whether it’s a stapler, a book that belongs to the company, copy paper, or paper clips; leave them behind. If the company hires your replacement before you leave, offer to coach them. Even after you have departed, it’s a smart idea to leave a telephone number where you may be reach with times that it is OK to call. Be certain to keep your communication as pro as you have during your reign. There isn’t any reason that you still cannot be friends when it’s over. If you’re careful to maintain a good reputation with the company, their providers, their clients, and staff; it’ll pay off significantly. It might not occur immediately, but your trails will cross again.
